Match to Make a Difference

Young People’s Concerts—a mainstay of Minnesota Orchestra programming since 1911—create magical moments of learning and discovery for over 25,000 school students each year. This season, yellow school buses packed with children once again encircled Orchestra Hall as we welcomed the return of in-person audiences for this storied Orchestra tradition after a three-year pause. These kids come to experience the thrill of live orchestral music, many for the very first time.

It takes a village to make this a reality, and the Minnesota Orchestra’s community of supporters allows schools to receive free or subsidized tickets and transportation to Orchestra Hall. Student audiences couldn’t be more grateful for the support. Check out just a few of the colorful thank you notes and cards we’ve received this season alone:

A teacher from Hmong College Prep Academy is also noticing the impact of their trip to Orchestra Hall well after the concert ended, saying “My students are still finding ways to connect their learning to the deeply thrilling and inviting experience they had.

Inspiring a love of symphonic music in young listeners has been a core value of the Minnesota Orchestra for years, and will continue to be in the years to come under incoming music director Thomas Søndergård, who knows firsthand the impact hearing live music can have on young minds.
