CONCERT AND CONVERSATION

Music & Healing

Tue Jul 25, 2023

Orchestra Hall

~90 Minutes (no intermission)

Led by Sarah Hicks, this concert and conversation explores music, anxiety and well-being. The program will feature the world premiere of a new work for orchestra inspired by audience responses to their own experiences with managing anxiety and finding inner peace. Plus, singer-songwriter Chastity Brown, whose music has touched on the topic of mental health, will join the Orchestra for a set of new songs. Audience members will also participate in a mindfulness exercise accompanied by the Minnesota Orchestra.

A Few Things to Know

  1. Come early and enjoy a delicious Bubbles and Bites package prepared by Wandering Kitchen featuring a charcuterie box paired with your choice of bubbles, wine or a non-alcoholic sparkling beverage. After your concert, enjoy s'mores and a crafted cocktail with your own personal fire pit. (Read more about these tasty offerings).

You can also purchase Bubbles and Bites or a S'mores Nightcap separately.
  2. Composer Molly Joyce, who was commissioned to compose a piece using submissions from our social media and email audiences, is an alumnus of the 2022 Minnesota Orchestra Composer Institute.
  3. Summer at Orchestra Hall Artist in Residence BRKFST Dance Company will perform Yaz Lancaster's work, "Potential Unity" in the lobby ahead of the concert. Created for dancers, two violins and electronica, the composer says the work "came out of my experience with SSRI (antidepressant) withdrawal, a serious but understudied field of health and medicine."
